Nordiska of Gothenburg, 1960

Designer: Birgitta Salenius
Name: Kudde 5676
Original colour: Purple
Orginal product: cushion, circa 40 x 40 cm.

Floralina was the most loved embroidery piece at our large Nordiska exhibition in Birmingham, March 2019. Designed in the late 1950's, the only embroidered piece we have was found in Sweden, framed with the hand written note:
"Till mamma, julen 1960" / "To mother, Christmas 1960".

We are not sure if we will ever find the original instructions for this kit, and will in the meantime try to recreate the stitches in a booklet that will be published in 2021.

For now, we are pausing the production of prints until the booklet is ready, and these are the remaining 25 panels to find.

The fabric is 100% linen, hand printed in Sweden. Size circa 60 x 40 cm.

Two printed cards are included:
one card with a photograph of the original artwork, an English translation of stitches used, and a brief history of its origins. The other card describes the 24 common stitches used by Nordiska in their kits.

This embroidery kit requires improvising, but you can follow the shades of light and dark on the card. Up to 14 skeins are needed to finish this panel, and 17 shades were used in the original version.
