Nordiska of Gothenburg, 1960's
Designer: Ingrid Bjernefors Dahlman
Name: Vepa 8783 Gulsparv / Sparrows
Original colour: Brown linen with linen threads in yellows, grey, brown, green and black.
Designed in the early 1960's at Nordiska of Gothenburg, Sparrows 8783 was originally printed on a 37 x 63 cm linen cloth called Moralinne. We have kept the same measurements for the contemporary linen print too.
The design itself measures 47 cm in diameter.
Included in this set is:
A 100% linen cloth, the colour is a soft, bright mustard, you can see it next to duck egg #502 and Celestine in the last image here.
- 14 colours of contemporary linen threads in a paper box, gift wrapped with tissue paper and cotton bias.
- Three chenille needles on a vintage paper cut, 20/22/24
- A stitch card showing the 24 most common 60's linen embroidery stitches. This card is an exact copy of Nordiska's 60's stitch card, once written on a 60's typewriter in Nordiska's headquarters in Gothenburg.
The original pattern instructions were found in the Nordiska archive and will be included. It is a larger sheet showing exactly where to add your stitches, so it's good for anyone who does not want to improvise too much.
You will still need to decide where to add your colours, as we have chosen a different palette from the 60's yellows and browns.
Linen always look best if it isn't washed, and we recommend keeping it as it is, just as Nordiska did in the 1960's. The print itself is wash proof, so you will need to embroider over the lines. Don't worry if the white lines peek through: it is part of the style and charm of linen embroidery of this era.
We hope you will love this Nordiska treasure just as much as we do!
